AlaBev was founded in 1907 in downtown Birmingham, Alabama as Birmingham Beverage Company, a manufacturer of alcohol-free beverages. After Prohibition ended, the company added beer distribution with the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Under the leadership of Sergei Kampakis, the company expanded with imported beer and additional alcohol-free beverages. In 2014, now doing business statewide as AlaBev, the company began diversifying into wine, spirits, nicotine, sweets and snacks and THC products. AlaBev remains a fourth-generation family business and a leader of distribution in Alabama.
