LINDEMANS FRUIT BEERS
|
In 1859, old farmer Lindemans started a little brewery on his farm with the aim of making some beer for himself, his neighbors and friends. Soon, due to the success of his beer, the brewery increased in size. Today, the farm is totally occupied by the brewing installation, fermentation rooms, stock, and the bottle store. Recently a new brewery was built next to the old one. This was necessary in order to meet the growing needs of the market without any loss of quality. Lambic is one of the most typical beers of Belgium. It is a wheat beer which can be brewed only to the South-West of Brussels because of the presence of specific yeasts, such as Brittanomyces Bruxullensis and Brittanomyces Lambicus. Lambic forms the basis of six other beers produced by Lindemans Brewery: Faro, Gueuze, Kriek, Framboise, Pecheresse and Cassis. Ideal for long hot summers, Lindemans fruit flavoured beers from Belgium provide the perfect appetiser and cocktail for the discerning drinker. Long known on the Continent as the preferred alternative to spritzers, panache's, and other mixed drinks, Lindemans fruit beers are the major new arrival in the long, cool drinks market. |

Kriek, the first of the fruit beers was obtained by adding fresh black cherries to young Lambic. After 4 to 5 months of fermentation, only peel and stones are left and the kriek is ready to be filtered and bottled. Over several months of fermentation the characteristic bouquet of the kriek comes to the fore. Because of the high price of fresh black cherries and their limited availability (only in the period at the beginning of August), it is more advantageous for the brewer to use cherry juice, which is available during the whole year. |

Lindeman’s Gueuze Lambic - Belgium. The golden color of this wild fermented beer is cidery with a winey palate. This beer is reminiscent of dry vermouth that has a more complex and natural flavor. This is the local beer of Brussels. Nowadays, Lambic beer on draught is hard to find: only in a few pubs around Brussels can you still taste it. Nevertheless, for practical purposes, Lambic has been increasingly available in bottled form since 1880. This was the birth of the Gueuze beer. Today, there are 2 kinds of gueuze available: natural Gueuze, which still contains yeast dregs; filtered Gueuze, which is pasteurized and has no yeast dregs. |
