Beer Spice Cake (Mocha Frosting)

2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour 1/4 teaspoon allspice
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 cup shortening
1/4 teaspoon salt 1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon 2 eggs (not beaten)
1/4 teaspoon clove 1/3 cup molasses
3/4 cups beer  

Sift dry ingredients together three times.  Cream shortening and add sugar slowly, creaming well.  Add eggs one at a time and beat thoroughly after each addition.  Stir in molasses and then add the sifted ingredients, alternately with the beer.  Bake in 2 greased layer-cake tins in a moderate oven (375 degrees) about 25 to 30 minutes.  Cover with the following frosting:

Fluffy Mocha Frosting

4 cups confectioner's sugar 1/3 cup strong coffee
4 teaspoons cocoa 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup chopped pistachio nuts
1/3 cup butter or fat  

Mix sugar, cocoa and salt.  Cream thoroughly with fat or butter.  Add coffee and vanilla.  Cream and beat well.  Spread the frosting between the layers and cover top and sides.  Chop the pistachio nuts and decorate cake in a border or any other design.
